The project is located in Zhaoxiang Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai, with a total land area of about 8 mu. The base is adjacent to Lushen Road to the east, ZhenMiddle East Road to the south, and Shanghai Senda Garden to the north. The project site is surrounded by villa areas, multi-storey schools and universities for the elderly to the south of the road, and the river to the west.
The client wanted to build a hospital that was the least hospital-like, a place of relaxation, healing of body and mind, growth, and a return to a state of well-being and health for the whole person. In addition to the outpatient treatment of water rehabilitation, 300 beds are set up to provide patients and family members with mobility difficulties or need short-term hospitalization, basically with two rooms and single rooms, family rooms, these three room types to meet different needs.
The comfort and permeability of sunlight and space are important factors to promote health and happiness. Because of the lack of sunlight, the environment in most hospitals is depressing and dreary, and it is even difficult to know where to be. The design uses light and water as a starting point to create a healing spa environment with gardens, courtyards and water features, thereby creating a hospital that is less like a hospital.
The project belongs to Qingpu, which has a close relationship with Zhujiajiao Water Town. It is designed around the core idea that water and nature and sunlight are essential to the therapeutic experience of patients, families and staff.
Water is the source of life, hydrotherapy rehabilitation is to treat in the way of water, so as to achieve rehabilitation and healing. Water is introduced to divide the space and guide the space to create a scene, thus creating a healthy shore. Light direction, future, life and hope, horizontal water vertical fill light, the water surface ripples, water more vitality. Bathed in light and water, life is restored, healthy and growing.
The building as a whole is consistent with the base, showing a simple rectangular volume. The concept of "water, streamers, waves and boats" is implanted in the roof, and the building is like a sailing ship docked on the shore, thus giving the patients a psychological comfort and hope. The space environment of the spa rehabilitation hospital should have the essence of healing, meditation, soothing and spirit. The floating roof, which is like a wave, seems to float above the forest on the north side, and the transparent interior "healing garden" is the climax of the case.
