The project is located at 28 Jialing Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai. The kindergarten used to be a primary school. The building as a whole is not very shabby, and the facade is mainly decorated with light red imitation stone tiles and beige paint. The Windows of corridors, classrooms and other functional Spaces are evenly arranged with sliding Windows of equal size less than one meter above the ground. The original campus does not have affinity and vitality, and lacks imaginative space and creative space.
The current situation is that the corridor is tortuous and narrow, and the space is monotonous and dark and not clear enough. The active line of the corridor that enters the classroom and turns to the inner courtyard leads to visual obstruction and discontinuity of behavior. The inner courtyard enclosed by the foyer, corridor and multi-function hall has a lot of plants but has lost its due vitality, and there is no channeling between the guiding function and the function.
The main solution of the design is to reorganize the moving line. First, the classroom on the first floor extends to the corridor of the active line and the inner courtyard, and combines the corridor space with the classroom, so that the space of the three classrooms is freed from the narrow space. The classrooms on the ground floor, the inner courtyard and the hall, and the newly developed active line form the space enclosing the inner courtyard, and the interior space has a closer relationship with the outdoor space. The middle class can reach the classroom through the inner courtyard, the classroom near the foyer can directly enter the classroom through the background grille of the foyer, and the other classroom is reached through the active line between the inner courtyard and the multi-purpose hall.
All the bathrooms near the original corridor in the classroom are moved to the south, so that the bathrooms without direct lighting can get natural lighting and ventilation, so that all the places where children can reach can have lighting and direct scenery.
A main traffic flow parallel to the entrance hall is marked on the side of the inner courtyard, which leads to the rear courtyard, bypassing the central green in a counterclockwise direction to the left and forming a large circular space back to the main entrance hall.
Another flexible space behind the stage of the multi-purpose hall perpendicular to the foyer can display the works of children, or it can be directly connected to the outside and through the passageway between the multi-purpose and the main building, it can be circled back to the origin, and clockwise it can be circled back to the foyer. The newly developed three winding and intersecting moving lines drive the vitality and connection of the space in the park, making the tension and interaction between the space and the space no longer estranged from each other.
The three classrooms and the active line enclosed inner courtyard adjacent to the multi-function hall connect the surrounding Spaces that may participate through open and transparent floor-to-ceiling glass doors and Windows, stimulating the vitality of each space. The greening of the inner courtyard can be directly connected with the greening landscape in the south through the classroom, and the closer relationship between the interior and the outside seems to make the classroom in nature.
The unnecessary lines and corners and decorations of the building were stripped away, and the overall tone of the building was white. The uneven large area of floor-to-ceiling Windows liberate the narrow and turning corridor, and the children passing through the corridor have a more distinctive personality, and have a visual dialogue with the ground space and people. The differentiated behavior of moving between layers is clearer, more dramatic and more independent.
