The project is located at No. 1108 Huamu Road, only one road away from Shanghai’s largest ecological city park, Century Park. It covers an area of 4289 square meters and a total construction area of 4357 square meters. The project is a reconstruction project, and the original building is the procuratorate. The design fully considers the location of the site, and designs greening and plantation on the roof, extending the Century Park to the roof of the kindergarten. The cloud-like plant wall on the roof is open at the height of the children’s eye level, avoiding the road and other perspectives, so that the children playing on the roof can feel like being in the forest through the frame scene.
On the basis of the original building framework, the kindergarten cantilevers the entrance circular space to each direction with ellipses as units. The children are brought to the second floor through the ramp inside the space, and the circular circulation is formed through the cantilevered elliptical corridor. At the same time, the belt window is open on the circular circulation, bringing the forest in the century park into the circular space. The north and south directions of the activity room are given way to form a semi-outdoor activity platform, and a more complete circular circulation is formed with the elliptical ring corridor, so that the children can run and play without restriction. The prominent platform introduces the green landscape of the outdoor century park into the kindergarten space, and also blurs the internal and external space. On the other hand, the backstage also effectively blocks the direct light and forms air circulation, creating a more comfortable and natural space for children.
Indoor air flow and effective ventilation will make children active and happy, on the contrary, it will cause children’s laziness and fatigue. Poor air flow is easy to let children catch colds and cross infection. The design should not only take into account the opening surface of the window, but also take into account the flow direction of the air, as far as possible to let the air flow from the outdoor to the indoor, and then flow to the outdoor. The feeling of being touched by the wind, the tactile experience of the wind across the skin will stay in the memory of children, which is a direct contact with nature.
The classroom and activity space of the kindergarten need natural ventilation and air flow. The classroom and corridor should have high window as possible. The corridor and balcony outside not only shade the sun, but also promote the flow of the wind. There should be air flow across the skin and visual scenery. Good natural landscape is helpful for children’s visual health and mental happiness.
